Agentic commerce is here. Is your catalogue agent-ready?

AI is starting to buy. Here is the quick checklist for whether your products can be discovered, compared, and purchased by an AI agent acting on a buyer's behalf.

ChatGPT Shopping. Google's Unified Commerce Platform. Amazon's "Buy for Me." Each of these gives an AI agent the ability to compare products, evaluate options, and transact — on behalf of a buyer who may never visit the merchant's site.

For e-commerce and DTC brands, this is the question worth answering in 2026: is our catalogue agent-ready?

A quick checklist.

Is your product data structured? Every product needs a clean, machine-readable representation — title, description, price, availability, key attributes, images with proper alt text, comparison-friendly properties. Many product pages today carry this information in long-form marketing copy that's hard for an agent to extract.

Are your reviews readable? Reviews matter more in agentic surfaces than in traditional ones, because the agent uses them to rank options. Structured review data — explicit ratings, named reviewers, verified purchase status — outperforms unstructured reviews by a wide margin.

Are your policies discoverable? Return windows, warranty terms, shipping rates, sustainability claims. Increasingly, AI agents summarise these when comparing options. If yours are buried in PDFs or only stated at checkout, you appear less transparent than a rival whose policies are on structured, well-marked pages.

Are you ready to receive an AI-initiated transaction? When the agent decides to buy, can the purchase happen smoothly through agentic checkout, voice interface, or embedded product card? If not, the recommendation may go to a brand that's set up properly.

We are at the beginning of this curve. Most brands haven't started. The ones that do start now will be the ones AI agents recommend by default a year from now. The cost of being late will compound.
